Thanks to Brother Jamie Wright, Health and Safety Rep, for once again leading Local 88 in a moving Day of Mourning ceremony at our April General Membership Meeting.

This year we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Westray Mine disaster, which claimed the lives of 26 miners in Pictou County, Nova Scotia on May 9, 1992.

We celebrate the federal government’s announcement this week that it will act to ensure effective enforcement of the Westray Law, provisions in the Criminal Code allowing for the criminal prosecution of employers whose negligence puts workers at risk.

Kill a worker, go to jail!
