Retiree News

Retired Members Page

We have had a few requests to see if we could get a retired members page up onto the website as a way to keep track of all of our retirees now that their numbers are growing quickly. The answer is yes of course we can! We have January through May 2019 up so far and will keep adding as soon as we can get updated retired members lists. You can find the page under the members tab in the top menu or by clicking the pic below.

On June 12, 2019, we shall be holding our annual Retiree BBQ. If you are planning on attending, you must notify us, and submit a cheque in the amount of $25 per person. Your name MUST be submitted by May 17, 2019, in order for us to get the correct number of steaks, baked potatoes, etc. Make the cheque payable to Local 88.  Your cheque should show that it is for the BBQ !! At the BBQ on June 12th, you may then pick up your cheque from Chuck Smith. If you do not show up, your cheque WILL be deposited to offset the cost. As with all events with retirees, spouses are encouraged to come out as well. Hope to see you there. In solidarity Brian Ginty

Retirees and Driving

As retired workers, we spend more time in our vehicles. With the new driving laws now in effect, here are a few tips, courtesy of Finch Chevrolet in London.. Distracted Driving Know what counts as distracted driving – and the penalties you could face for it – before you get behind the wheel. Your friends here at Finch Chevrolet wanted to take a minute to let you know about Ontario’s new Distracted Driving laws and the substantial penalties that come along with them. Drivers convicted of Distracted Driving under the new laws will be punished with a license suspension, a hefty fine and demerit points. The severity of the punishment increases with the number of subsequent offences committed: 1st Offence: 3 days suspension and a $1,000 fine. 2nd Offence: 7 days suspension and...

This is just a reminder that we have a meeting coming up on February 13, starting at 10 am (sharp?). We shall be handing out up to 11 new retirement watches at this time. As I attended the pre-retirement seminar no Saturday, February 2, 2019, I have been given a few event offers. Come to the meeting and hear about them. One of the events is a bus trip. Julie Fenn is offering a bus trip to Niagara Falls Casino. The cost is $10/person, with $10 given back in Casino credit. This makes the trip basically FREE. We just need 40 people to prepay when they sign up. The trip is scheduled for April 13, leaving the Cami North lot at 8:30 and returning by 5. If you are not interested in gambling, you could just wander around the falls and the stores. I hope to see many of our 500 plus members at the m...
