Retiree meeting

On January 9, 2019, we shall be holding the first meeting of this new year. As usual, the meeting will start at 10:00 am sharp. I would ask that you submit your annual dues check of $24.00 at this time. Although not a lot of money, these dues will go towards financing bus trips, euchre games, etc, throughout the year. At the meeting, we shall be brought up-to-date on events at the plant, and what has or has not changed in our benefits. There will be a pot luck lunch served after the meeting ends. I look forward to seeing you all again. In solidarity Brian Ginty

Christmas lunch

The retiree Christmas lunch will be held on November 14, 2018. All retirees and spouses are invited to attend. You must submit either a cheque or cash in the amount of $25 per person, by October 31, to guarantee your meal. When you arrive for the meeting/lunch,  your payment shall be returned to you.. If you order a plate but do not show, this will be kept and used to help cover the cost. You may pay at the October 10 meeting if you like. As usual, all meetings will start at 10 am sharp. I look forward to seeing you all there. In solidarity

Goderich mine strike

Retirees. There is a bus going out of Unifor Local 636 on Thursday, June 28 at 9:45 a.m. and then bus will return to Unifor Local 636 around 5-5:30 p.m. We need to go to Goderich and show support to our members there on strike. This is not an ideal time for the miners, as there is no need for road salt until the end of the year. So while scab miners from the U.S. dig out the salt, we are going to have a rally and BBQ with the strikers. As this is a weekday rally, we need as many retirees as possible to help bolster the strikers. Please contact Joe Graves at..joegraves@unifor88.ca       in order to secure your seat on the bus. In solidarity Brian

April 27, 2018 Advance vote

Please keep April 27, 2018 in mind. The plant triennial elections take place this May, with the advance voting open on April 27, 2018. This is the ONLY time you can vote. It will take place in the Union Hall starting from 600 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As members in good standing, all retirees are eligible to cast their vote at this time for all Executive positions. This will be an interesting event, with some major changes happening through the democratic process. As I am retired, I don’t do early mornings these days, but will get there around 11:00 a.m. I hope to see many retirees use their right to help set a new Executive for the next 3 years. In solidarity Brian

New website almost ready.

The new Unifor Local 88 website will be launching very soon. There will be all things that were on the old site + some new features like a more compact easier to navigate design with links to all things Local 88 and an improved members area. Please note – over the next two weeks some features of the old site may be intermittent as we move the last few things over to the new one. We will try to keep any interruptions as brief as possible. We are not currently approving members trying to sign up for the old members area because it will be shutting down shortly so if you have been trying to sign up in the last few weeks you will need to sign up again after we launch. Stay tuned we will keep everyone updated.
