Are you fluent in ASL?

From the In-Plant Committees, GM Cami Assembly and Unifor Local 88 acknowledge that there is a gap between the Hearing and Deaf members within our plant. We are looking for individuals (hourly and/or salary) who are fluent in American Sign Language to be used on an “as needed basis” for meetings, cross training and NON- disciplinary issues. We are looking for people on all shifts to support this initiative. You do not have to be a licensed interpreter to apply for this position. If you feel you are qualified for the position, please submit this form directly to Mike VanBoekel or Alexandra McCoy; either in person or through your committeeperson. Successful applicants will be required to go through an interview with the Union, a deaf member and Employee Relations.   DEADLINE TO APPLY IS...

Website & App Changes

The Communications committee has been hard at work today on our website and app. We’ve made a lot of changes under the hood to speed up and increase the performance of both. Noticeable changes on the front end have been kept to a minimum to keep user experience consistent. The biggest change you may notice is that there is no longer a login required for the app or the pages of the site. There are no more pop-ups asking for you to log in. We are working on a members only news page for each unit just in case there is ever any sensitive Local 88 only news that needs to be shared. It will be password protected but it will have a universal password to make it easier. We don’t want anyone to miss anything important. Any questions or concerns please let us know here. Thanks and...

January Update 2019

Pension course update!

Pension Course February 2nd, 2018 We have a pension course coming up February 2nd, 2018 from 8am to 4:30pm at the Four Points Sheraton in London, Ontario. The requests for this course were higher than we have space for at the Four Points. We are currently about 30-40 people over the space limit, and due to the high volume have decided to put on another course coming up in October. We are asking if anyone would rather reschedule to October, or has decided that they couldn’t make the one currently scheduled to call our office and we will move you to the new date. We appreciate the amazing turnout and hope that we can get this information to as many members as possible. In Solidary, Unifor Local 88 Benefits Committee

CONTEST UPDATE

At 11am this morning Pioneer Seeds announced the Here’s to Hometowns Contest and Hickson won!!!!! On behalf of my family, THANK YOU you very much to all my brothers and sisters of Local 88.  The prize money of $50 000 will do many great things for Hickson and the county of Oxford.   The contest ran a long time but thanks very much for sticking to it and continuing to vote.  It does prove that voting makes a difference.  Our small town will see some big changes from this prize money as well as our county and our local Mental Health Association.  From our family and our community, thank you brothers and sisters!!!

Internal CAMI Job Postings

We have received several comments that the new online area on the GM CAMI Assembly website where members can  view internal job postings is hard to find. We’ve put a link up on our site/app to, hopefully, make it easier to find. Scroll down to the buttons section of the front page of our site and you will find a postings button. Click that and it will take you directly to the correct page of the GM site. You can also click the pic below. NOTE: Local 88 has nothing to do with the posting or maintenance/upkeep of the GM CAMI Assembly website and this link is for information purposes of our members only. The Local 88 Communications committee can’t take responsibility for any information posted/mis-posted on the CAMI website.

#SaveOshawaGM

#SaveOshawaGM The campaign to save GM Oshawa Assembly continues. You can show your support with T-shirts and Lawn signs. They are available, at no cost, in the Union office or speak to your Committeeperson.

Walk For Alzheimer’s.

Our team is raising money in support of the Alzheimer Society by participating in the Walk for Alzheimer’s in memory of and under the name of Bob White, the founding President of the Canadian Auto Workers who passed last February after battling the disease. “Bob White is loved and respected by everyone so it’s a beautiful dedication to him,” said Bonnie Martin, awareness trainer with local 222, about the trailblazing trade unionist who passed away in February of 2017 after battling the disease. The Alzheimer Society provides essential programs and services that work to effectively alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia’s within our community. Please make a donation today and help us reach our fundraising goal! By su...
