Unifor National Scholarships

Greetings: Unifor recognizes that the costs associated with post-secondary education is a challenge for many working-class families.  To assist in making education more accessible, we’ve established 28 scholarships of $2,000.00 each.  Five of these scholarships are administered by the Quebec Council with a separate application form (see www.uniforquebec.org).  Residents of Quebec must apply using that application process. The scholarships are awarded to children of Unifor members in good standing.  Students must be entering their first year of full-time post-secondary education (university, community college, technological institute, trade school, etc.) in a public Canadian institution.  One of these scholarships will also be available to a Unifor member with at least one year seniority. International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day (RSI Day)

Message from Unifor National Dear Sisters and Brothers, On February 28, we mark the International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day (RSI Day). Injured workers and labour activists founded RSI Day as an annual event to raise awareness and increase protection against these serious, and potentially disabling, injuries which are often incurred on the job. Unifor will continue to call on all provinces and territories to expand mandatory ergonomic regulations. All governments must adopt strong workplace regulations, backed by robust enforcement, to protect workers from painful, costly and unnecessary injuries. Pharmacare-A Plan For Everyone

On Monday, February 12, 2018, Mike Van Boekel, GM CAMI Unit Chairperson and Dan Borthwick, Unifor 88 President made a presentation to Ingersoll Town Council on the need for a National Pharmacare Program. Hello everyone, Our new website is now live. We have listened to your suggestions and slimmed things down and made things easier to find. The most commonly looked for items are up front. If you are a Local 88 member join our members area to connect with your work family, Buy/ Sell, post events etc. Welcome! We are working on our app. There may be a few days of service interruption while we switch it over. Modernizing Federal Labour Standards

The federal government has created an online survey, the purpose of this survey is to hear from all Canadians about how to modernize labour standards for workers in the federally regulated private sector. Members of Doug Coleman Trucking are directly affected by the Canada Labour Code. Changes are needed, I urge all members of Unifor Local 88 to participate in the survey. We are calling on the federal government to improve paid time off the job through increases to vacation and personal leaves, paid breaks/lunches, improved job protection while on leaves such as maternity/parental, overtime paid after 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week for all sectors (Currently in road transportation a driver must work more than 60 hours in a week before being paid overtime), minimum notice for schedu...
