Doug Coleman Trucking (DCT) will be permanently closing the Ingersoll Terminal, resulting in 57 Unifor 88 members being laid off. DCT has informed Unifor 88 that the layoffs will be in 2 stages.
The first stage, DCT plans to begin eliminating positions on March 26, 2018. Members affected will be issued notices starting February 26, 2018.
The second stage, has not been determined and will depend on GM-CAMI requirements.
Our plan is to work through all the outstanding issues around monies owed, seniority issues, termination pay, severance pay, grievances, etc.
DCT is covered by federal legislation. I have provided a link of the Canada Labour Code Information on Labour Standards around Termination https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/labour-standards/reports/termination.html
It is important that each affected member read the entire document so that you are informed. I would like to draw your attention to bullets # 12 and 13. It is important that members do not decline a recall or quit. If you are considering these two options’, please contact the union committee or myself.
In order that Unifor Local 88 may continue communication with each member it is asked that they keep their mailing address and contact information up to date. If a member has any changes, please contact:
Kim DeGraaf, Recording Secretary, at 519-425-0952 ext. 103 or email@example.com
Rest assured that the Executive Board and Leadership of Unifor Local 88 will continue to represent each member and work with the Unifor 88-DCT Unit 5 Union Committee as we work through all the issues.
If members affected by this announcement have any further questions, please contact the undersigned.
In Solidarity, Dan Borthwick
