The Canadian Federal Government made some big announcements this morning to help the Canadian public.
Some of these won’t affect us but will our family and friends.

My notes on today’s announcements:
If you don’t qualify for EI
1-Emergency Care Benefit- 14 weeks
Contractors, freelancers, gig economy workers etc
900 every two weeks for up to 15 weeks
If you have to self isolate, are ill, quarantined or taking care of family members also
Taking Care of Kids at home
Apply online at home- simple attestation- no doctors note.
Available to apply early April
2- Covid-19 Emergency Support Benefit
Self-employed- 14 weeks.
Similar to EI rates
3-Temporary wage subsidy to Small Businesses- 10% of salary/wage for 3 months to offer wage continuation. Up to $25,000 per employer
4- Taxes- deadline extended until June 1
-if you owe – have until August 2020 to pay
5- Parents- temporary boost to CCB
$300 extra per child per month
No start date announced
6- Seniors- Reduce the penalty for taking out Registered Retirement funds by 25%
7- Low Income Supplement
GST boost $300 and $150/child.
8- Doubling reaching home program homeless funding for municipalities
9- 6 mos interest free moratorium on Canada student loan paybacks
10- Shelters- boost funding to shelters who are housing people self isolating.
11- Indigenous Communities Fund – no details
