The federal government has created an online survey, the purpose of this survey is to hear from all Canadians about how to modernize labour standards for workers in the federally regulated private sector.
Members of Doug Coleman Trucking are directly affected by the Canada Labour Code. Changes are needed, I urge all members of Unifor Local 88 to participate in the survey. We are calling on the federal government to improve paid time off the job through increases to vacation and personal leaves, paid breaks/lunches, improved job protection while on leaves such as maternity/parental, overtime paid after 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week for all sectors (Currently in road transportation a driver must work more than 60 hours in a week before being paid overtime), minimum notice for scheduling change, all overtime is voluntary and improved enforcement of the law with increased penalties for violations.
