On September 19th, Locals 1859, 636 & 88, along with community support agencies, will gather in Woodstock for Take Back the Night. This is an evening event from 5:30 – 8:30pm at Museum Square in Woodstock. All are welcome to join us, we will hear from guest speakers, survivors, make up some posters and march the streets to raise awareness about gender based violence. Take Back the Night is the oldest worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence in all its forms. It started in the 70’s as a women’s movement to advocate for safety of women walking alone at night and has evolved to include all people affected by sexual violence.  (takebackthenight.org)

The statistics show it…

1 in 3 women worldwide experience some form of sexual violence or intimate partner violence. *In Canada, one woman or girl is killed every 48 hours (*Canadianwomen.org).

1 in 6 men experience sexual violence.

2 in 3 transgendered people have been sexually assaulted.

People in the LGBTQIA+ community are more likely to experience sexual violence.

Less than 50% of victims report these crimes.

We will continue to march, for as long as it takes.

Come join us on Thursday, September 19th at Museum Square in Woodstock!
