About International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • celebrate women’s achievements
  • raise awareness about women’s equality
  • lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • fundraise for female-focused charities

Here at Local 88, we have been very fortunate to have some very strong and determined women who have helped lift our local into what it is today. From our elected female leadership to our domestic violence language and our by-law that a female sits on the bargaining committee. Local 88 has and will always continue to advocate for women’s rights and equality. It is part of our foundation!

Unifor National is setting up a web conference via zoom tonight at 7pm to discuss women’s issues. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have that conference full of Local 88 members? You can sign up here.
