UNIFOR LOCAL 88 — VACANCY ELECTION Nominations.

Positions Available

The following five (5) positions are open for nomination:

Executive Board Positions (All non-retired members in good standing are eligible to run  for these positions, including AWC members)

*these positions are not full time –  are as needed or determined by the Local 88 Executive board/President.

  • Vice President / Recording Secretary (merged role)
  • Secretary Treasurer (formally Financial Secretary)
  • BIWOC Member at Large

In-plant Unit 1 Positions (Active in-plant members including skilled trades and recall list members are eligible to run for these positions)

  • Plant Chairperson
  • Plant Coordinator

ELIGIBILITY TO RUN

Before submitting your nomination please ensure you meet the eligibility requirements set out in the Local 88 Bylaws

Additional requirements by position:

  • Plant Chairperson and Plant Co-Ordinator — must be a member of the GM CAMI Assembly Unit 1
  • BIWOC Member at Large — only members who identify as Black, Indigenous or a Worker of Colour are eligible to run per Section 15.08(b)(6)
  • A retired member is not eligible to seek election as a Local Union officer per Section 15.08(b)(5)

Members on layoff are eligible and welcome to put their name forward for any position they qualify for. However Section 15.06(e) of the Local 88 Bylaws states:

“Should a member not currently working full-time in the plant win a position in any election they cannot assume office until they are working full-time in the plant again. The alternate shall assume office until the elected member returns to full duties in the plant.”

This provision applies equally to all positions and all candidates. How it is administered following the election result will be determined in accordance with both the Local 88 Bylaws (Exec) and the Collective Agreement/Employer

Campaigning

Campaign flyers can be sent to unifor88.ca@gmail.com for posting on the 88 website. These flyers will also be randomized for viewing on this page.

Because most of our members are on layoff and social media will be used likely for campaigning. Please be respectful to other Candidates and members.
