Critical Update for Roll Out Meetings (Monday & Tuesday)
There will be a large amount of paperwork to distribute prior to the roll out meetings. Please read the following
information carefully so you know what to expect.
Attendance at the meetings is not mandatory. If you plan on remaining at work and continuing on layoff status, you may
pick up your paperwork, review it, see Stephan or Rob, and then leave. You do not have to stay for the meeting.
The roll out meetings will cover information on retirement and voluntary exit packages, as well as extremely important
details regarding RRSPs. Additional information will also be shared to update the membership.
Please note that you will not be able to arrive five minutes before the meeting and still make it in on time. Members will
need to pick up their personalized six-page packages, and there will be a number of additional handouts available
depending on individual interests.
Members must enter the Union Hall through the south doors (offices) and then proceed to either the UAT classroom or the
boardroom. One of these rooms will be set up on Monday morning, and signage will be posted. This process will take
time, so please be patient.
We have volunteers assisting us who are currently on layoff. Membership has been divided by last name, and each
package must be signed for when it is picked up and again when it is returned.
The meetings themselves will be held in the Main Hall, which can accommodate approximately 200 people. Please do
not all arrive at 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning. Seating will also be limited, as many chairs and tables have
already been committed to a local school for a Christmas dinner taking place the same day
During the process, Jeff Bankes will be in the Main Hall to help answer questions. Stephan Cronin and Rob Gallace will
be in their office, and completed packages must be returned to them once you have made your decision. You may
decide immediately or return on another day, but the final deadline is January 7.
Members who live within approximately half an hour of the hall may wish to return on another date, as Stephan and Rob
may be very busy during the initial days.
Please continue to be patient throughout the process. There is a significant amount of paperwork, and everyone must
be sorted by last name upon arrival, which will take time. If possible, please carpool, as the parking lot will be very congested if 200–300 people arrive at once.
I would like to sincerely thank Mark Gee, Bob Pulham, and Jason Herman, who stayed until 8:30 p.m. last night at CAMI
preparing paperwork that only began arriving from GM Head Office at 12:00 p.m. They did not receive overtime for this
effort, and I had to leave at 5:30 p.m. for a Christmas party.
The next two days will be very hectic, but with patience and cooperation, most members should be in and out within
approximately one hour.
In Solidarity,
Mike Van Boekel
