To the 79 members who were laid off by the company, you may have noticed that you received a large payment from the company this morning.
The company has paid out any of your remaining vacation, any bank time, and any vacation entitlement you were owed for next year.
This money has to be reported to Service Canada as “other monies” and will most likely be allocated at your regular earnings rate per week.
This means if your vacation pay out was $6000 and you normally earn $1500 a week, it will allocate to 4 weeks of EI, and you will not be EI/SUB payable for 4 weeks.
So if you are on an active EI claim, please do not spend all this money. It will be your income for the next few weeks, depending on the size of your payout.
Any questions or for help to submit/clear your EI report, please reach out to one of us benefits reps.
