Inplant Update – July 23, 2026
With the bargaining announcement on July 21, 2026, by Unifor/General Motors, we will be entering into Negotiations with GM on August 10th, 2026.
Mark Gee, Jason Herman, Steven Pye, Rob Gallace, and Jeff Bankes will be representing Local 88 at this round of negotiations, with potential for added support if required. We know this may cause some issues with members with benefits representation being out of the hall for two weeks, however our benefits reps will have their phones and computers on them to work through any issue that may arise back home.
Some Important Dates
- August 10th – Negotiations kick off with General Motors
- August 21st – Internal Deadline

We want to be completely open and transparent about how this process will work.
In 2024, we negotiated our collective agreement to align our contract’s expiration with the GMCC Master agreement. This means that we will bargain at the same time as the rest of General Motors, but we are not apart of the Master Agreement at this time. The Master Agreement currently governs Locals 199 (St. Catherines) Local 222 (Oshawa) and Local 636 (Woodstock PDC), meaning they are still a separate contract than the current CAMI collective agreement.
This round we will be bargaining a standalone collective agreement with General Motors, but we will have a voice and spot at the Main Economic Review Table (ERC). Our committee will sit at each of the master tables to negotiate language that directly affects our plant and our members.
When it comes time for ratification, Cami members will hold a separate, independent, vote for the CAMI Collective Agreement. Our members will not vote to accept or reject the GMCC master agreement. Our vote will not affect their acceptance percentage, and their vote will not affect ours. I know this news may be surprising to some of our members based on a few calls I have received.
We understand the uncertainty and challenge this round of negotiations present. We want to reassure the membership, we have the full support of the other GM locals, Chairs and Vice Chairs of the Stellantis and Ford Councils, Unifor Support Staff and the heads of Unifor National. They will be alongside our committee to bring the best possible collective agreement back home to our members.
