On Tuesday, October 19, Mike Van Boekel, Mike Murphy and our retired president, Joe Graves spent the day with Unifor legal and our National rep in an arbitration on behalf of the former EMD members.
The issue is the deemed start date for those members and the dramatic effect the ruling will have on their benefits such as SUB, etc. According to the agreement they came with corporate seniority, in other words, their former GM years counted. GM is trying to state their start date for benefits is their CAMI start date.
The parties spent the first portion of the day working on legal arguments and trying to resolve the case, but to no avail.
The hearing then began. The case was not finished and due to an extremely busy schedule of the arbitrator the next scheduled day to continue the hearing is Feb 9.
