A new trilateral trade deal has been reached. The reworked name is called the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). This is definitely good news for our members. Over the last couple of months our members and families have had the anxiety of what would happen if tariffs were imposed on our Canadian vehicles. Within some of the early information that has been released, Canada will be able to export cars and parts tariff-free up to a certain amount, that is well above what Canada sends south of the border now. The actual hard number has not been released, just like some of the other details on how the auto industry will be affected. Local 88 will be looking for Unifor National to prepare an official statement on how this agreement affects all Unifor members in the auto industry. Jerry Diaz has been very involved in all NAFTA discussions over the months by voicing his opinion and criticism of the whole journey and Local 88 would like to thank him for his dedication and hard work.
