To the Members of Unifor Local 88:
2020 and Covid-19 has presented us all with many obstacles and hampered our ability to continue doing some things the same way.
As we prepare for our triennial elections in spring of 2021 as well as bargaining in the fall, we need to ensure all eligible members will be able to participate in these important processes, especially if the current gathering restrictions continue.
Over the past few triennial elections the cost of elections have become prohibitive.
Due to these concerns our executive board and membership have voted to conduct hybrid online elections for our next triennial election.
After observing the Detroit 3 negotiations and their use of a software company to conduct their contract and strike ratification votes, as well as meeting with the people in charge of organizing the process and discussing in depth the benefits and risks, we have decided to use the same company.
Simply Voting, a Canadian company, will provide us with a safe, secure and proven voting system backed by certifications and audit reports. The system is user-friendly and cost-effective.
Going forward we will provide more information about the process.
To participate in online voting members must register by filling out the attached form. There will be no manual option. Those without access to a phone or computer will be provided with access at the union hall.
The information provided by our members is confidential and will be used by Unifor Local 88 and Simply Voting solely for the purpose of communication, elections and voting for strike mandates, ratifications and other membership issues and will not be shared with any other party.
The Simply Voting system ensures that no one is able to see how individuals vote. It is encrypted and deleted by Simply Voting and not accessible by anyone else. We have researched the process and are confident in it.
Check out their website here: https://www.simplyvoting.com/
All members must register in order to vote. Retirees can register to vote for Executive Board positions.
