Strike Memories Anniversary Sept 17, 2018

Whether you want to remember the highly stressful times of a year ago or would rather forget, September 17, 2017 changed everything for Unifor Local 88. For the second time in our history, and exactly 25 years later, we went out on strike. Stress was incredibly high but we banded together to keep each other afloat emotionally. We held the lines and coordinated office duties, finance duties, communications, rallies, and an incredible amount of logistics for 29 days. Solidarity was the biggest key to morale during our time on the line. BBQs, karaoke, ring toss, hockey games, rallies, and support from our community hit all time highs to keep us going. Helping In Our Community

  Ever wondered how Local 88 helps in the local community? Organizing community events  the upcoming Ingersoll Municipal All candidates debates and Labour Day BBQ. Donating the use of our union hall for local community organizations to hold their events, like the Canadian Blood Services donor drives. Our members also donate personal time to community causes such as Stephenson kids camp bathroom renovations. Also as a Local we donate monetarily to surrounding communities. Canadian Association of Labour Media Awards

For those that are not aware Local 88 is a member of the Canadian Association of Labour Media (CALM). Once a year the association holds an awards night to honour excellence in the print, broadcast, online and graphics arts for material produced in the previous year from all across Canada. Tonight, Friday May 11, 2018, the ceremony is being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Local 88 has won 3 Awards! Best photograph Winner: volunteer produced. As a show of solidarity to the Humboldt Broncos and their families after the tragic event that happened in Saskatchewan Thursday April 12 2018 will be Jersey/Green Shirt day at Cami across all 3 shifts. This initiative is Canada wide. So tell your friends and neighbours!   Members are encouraged to take pics of their teams participating and share on Social Media using the hashtag #jerseysforhumboldt *please use discretion and common sense when posting pics of in plant areas.

Local 88 Sister Honoured at ApprSHEation Awards

Local 88 Sister Linda Smith was honoured today at the 9th annual International Women’s Day event. “Linda Smith is a recipient based on her many years in organizing the Take Back the Night March, and volunteering in providing food for folks that don’t have food, and volunteering on various women’s boards.” Congratulations Linda!!
